How to access the service

GP

Your GP can make a referral into the service, you will need to book an appointment with your GP practice.

Patient self-referral

If you live in Wolverhampton, you can refer yourself directly to our Podiatry department without needing to see a GP or healthcare professional first.

Before you apply, please review our service criteria below to ensure we are the right service for your needs.

Services We Do Not Provide:

To ensure our resources go to those with the highest clinical need, we cannot accept referrals for the following:

  • Routine Nail Cutting: For patients with no underlying medical or health conditions.
  • Fungal Nails: We do not routinely treat fungal nail infections.
  • Verrucae: Our service does not provide verruca treatments.
  • Diabetic Annual Foot Screens: Unless you have an additional, underlying need for specialist podiatry treatment.
  • Routine Corn & Callus Removal: For patients with no underlying medical or health conditions.
  • General Foot & Heel Pain: For patients with no underlying medical or health conditions.

Need private care? If you do not meet our criteria, you can find a local private podiatry practitioner via The Royal College of Podiatry directory

What to Expect If Your Referral is Accepted:

  • Ongoing Care: Acceptance for an assessment does not guarantee ongoing treatment. Your care depends entirely on your clinical condition, and you may be discharged at any point after your initial consultation.
  • Home Visits: Home visits are only offered if you meet one of the following criteria:
    • You are terminally ill.
    • You are bedbound.
    • You are completely housebound and unable to travel without support (if you can leave the house for GP, hospital, or social appointments, you will be expected to attend a clinic).
  • Environment Safety: If a clinician decides your home environment is not suitable for treatment, you will be offered an appointment at a local clinic instead.
