Accessing your appointments digitally

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is pleased to offer our patients an online service that gives you secure access to your health record via the NHS App. This service is free and uses an NHS accredited system called MyRWT. When you log into the NHS App, you will automatically be redirected to MyRWT to view your hospital appointment. If you already use MyRWT without the NHS App, you can continue to use this as normal.

The service, however you access it, is designed to improve your experience as a patient, including access to services and information. The NHS app also allows you to see your vaccinations status, order repeat prescriptions, book and manage GP appointments, get health information and advice, view your NHS Number and view your GP health record securely. The benefit of using the NHS App is that you can view all your healthcare information and appointments together in one place, regardless of which hospital or GP it is at.

However, for patients that can’t or don’t want to use the NHS App, MyRWT gives you another option to view your appointments, as well as access to information leaflets, questionnaires and travel directions.

Benefits of using the NHS App

Digital letters enable quicker communication between our clinical teams and patients, giving you greater peace of mind and avoiding delays
It’s fast and easy to use, and information is less likely to get lost
You can use accessibility features like:
- Change the text size of your letter, zoom in or out
- Have the letter read out to you
- Change the letter to another language
- Download the letter to your phone
- Add the date of your appointment/admission to your phone’s calendar
It’s more secure than text reminders/notifications, ensuring no one else can access your information if you don’t want them to

The NHS saves money that would have been spent on paper letters, which can go back into supporting other vital services

More about MyRWT

Our patient portal, MyRWT, can be used on a smartphone, laptop, or other smart device. As explained above, it works hand in hand with the NHS App, and you can use either or both depending on your needs.

Once registered for MyRWT, you can:

see details relating to some of your outpatient appointments
view a digital version of some appointment letters
add your appointments to a personal calendar
choose whether you still want to receive paper copies of your appointment letters alongside digital ones

If you have not registered for the portal and have a future appointment, you can still register for myRWT.

To register, you will need the following:

NHS number – this can be found this on hospital letters, or you can find it on the NHS website.
mobile phone – you must have a mobile number on record with the hospital. This is normally the number the hospital sends text messages to. This phone must be switched on and able to receive messages.

FAQs

What if I still want to receive paper letters?

We won’t stop sending you paper letters unless you ask us to. You can opt out of paper letters and receive all your appointments by SMS/app only in your user profile on MyRWT, but you can choose to opt back in to receiving paper letters at any time. How do I know the message is really from the hospital? I’m worried about clicking on a scam link.

We understand concerns around clicking on links or opening emails from unfamiliar contacts. If you are concerned about clicking on links from emails and text messages, you can log in to your MyRWT or the NHS App using the links on this page and see letters, appointment details or messages in the app. App related messages with links will come from ‘NHSRWT’ or ‘NHS login’. Reminder messages will not have a sender ID, but they do not include any links to click.

What if I don’t have the NHS App?

You can still receive text, letter and email alerts if we have your details. Nothing will change for patients who do not have the NHS app, so you do not have to notify the relevant service if you’re happy with our current communications.

You can also call the relevant service to change or cancel your appointment.

Is it better to have the NHS App?

The app allows you to view all your NHS documents in one place, and offers several ways to interact with healthcare services, depending on what each service offers. For example, you can access the new appointment booking system which allows you to request amendments or cancelations to your appointments, which you can’t do via texts and emails. RWT does not yet offer this feature but will do so in future. Your GP or other local hospitals may already offer this feature. If you think this will benefit you, it would be worthwhile to download the app.

How do I get it?

If I delete my text by mistake after I have opened it up how will I remember my appointment date?

There is an option to add the appointment to your phone calendar when you open the digital letter. You can also log into the NHS App or MyRWT using the links below to view all your previous letters in one place .

We will also continue to send our appointment reminder text messages ahead of your appointment.

What if we only have one email address in our household? How can we keep our information separate?

You can sign up to MyRWT with a unique username, so even if multiple people share the same email address or phone number, each person’s information will be kept separately and securely, and will be accessed with individual usernames that you can choose when you register.

What is coming soon to the MyRWT app?

As well as being able to request changes or cancellations to your appointment, soon we will also be offering:

Digital questionnaires. These will help you provide your clinician with information about you and your condition before your appointment, so that you can take your time to think about the answers if you need to, and so that you can use your appointment time to discuss your treatment in more detail.
Digital PIFU. For patients with an active Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU), some services will allow you to request a PIFU appointment digitally rather than having to call up.

Why am I not able to log in to the Portal?

If you are unable to login using the ‘Continue to NHS Login’ button, scroll down the page and you will see a further option to ‘Log In With Your Username’. You should enter your email address as your username here (unless you set up a separate username previously), and the password that you set up for the portal, then click the blue ‘Log In With Username’ button. You can also use the Forgot Password option here if you don’t remember the password.

Why are some of my letters still coming in the post, even though I requested paperless notifications?

We are working through the process of moving our departments over to digital. Some departments haven’t yet made the switch. Other letters have to be sent on paper for technical reasons, for example if they include a document you need to fill in and bring with you to your next appointment. We will continue to increase the number and types of letters eligible for digital over the coming months.
