A prostate cancer support group has received a special award recognising its work supporting men and raising awareness of the disease regionally and nationally.
Brothers Reaching Out for Support (BROS), which works closely with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), received a SUCOTETO Award of Recognition at an event held in July.
The SUCOTETO Award was developed by Ruth South, Chief Executive Officer of Communities Against Racism Enterprise (CARE), who designed the SUCOTETO wreath, used as the award’s emblem.
The BROS group provides support to men affected by prostate cancer while encouraging more men to talk about their health and seek help when they need it.
Junior Hemans, Chair of the group and former Non-Executive Director at RWT, collected the award on behalf of BROS at the event.
BROS’s work has also made an impact nationally, with the group working closely with Prostate Cancer UK to support the development of awareness campaigns.
Junior said: “It is fantastic for BROS to receive this recognition for the work we have done both regionally and nationally.
“Raising awareness of prostate cancer and making sure men know there is support available is incredibly important.
“We are proud to have worked alongside Prostate Cancer UK on national campaigns and to contribute to important research. This award is for everyone who has supported BROS and helped us reach more men.”
Kelly Kusinski, Urology Advanced Nurse Practitioner at RWT, said: “We are so proud to see BROS recognised with this award.
“I attend every meeting to give Nursing support, and the group provides valuable support to men affected by prostate cancer and plays an important role in raising awareness and encouraging conversations about the disease.
“This recognition is thoroughly deserved and reflects the commitment of everyone involved in BROS and the difference they continue to make to men and their families.”
