An NHS choir is celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of bringing staff together through music, friendship and support.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Staff Choir (RWT Choir) held its first rehearsal on 13 October 2016, with the aim of creating an opportunity for staff to come together and support their health and wellbeing through singing.
It is supported by Your RWTC, the registered charity of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, and is financially self-supporting.
Jayne Harper, Choir Organiser, said: “Ten years on, the choir has gone from strength to strength and has become much more than a group of colleagues who enjoy singing.
“It is like a family as we support one another through both the good times and the more difficult moments.
“We provide a chance for staff to relax, have fun and enjoy the benefits of music after a busy working day.”
Over the past 10 years, the RWT Choir has performed at a wide range of Trust and community events, including:
• Staff Long Service Awards
• Staff Carol Services
• Adult and Baby Memorial Services
• Allied Health Professionals (AHP) celebrations
• Christmas fairs
• Gala dinners
• Events for patients at New Cross Hospital
• Performances in residential homes
• Community events, pubs and special occasions
• Midlands Choir of the Year, where it was a finalist in both 2022 and 2026
The choir also performs regularly at New Cross Hospital for patients and at a variety of special events throughout the year, with Christmas being a particularly busy period.
The choir’s Musical Director is Martin Trotman, a freelance pianist, vocalist, composer, musical director and producer. Martin leads rehearsals and prepares the choir for performances throughout the year.
As part of its regular programme of events, members put on two public concerts each year, one in the summer and another at Christmas.
The choir’s next major event will be its Christmas concert at 3pm on 12 December at St Mary’s Church, Bushbury. Tickets cost £8 and can be bought on the door.
