Hospital placements for college students

T level health students

Students from South Staffordshire College will gain hands-on experience at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust through a new partnership to help prepare them for careers in healthcare.

The Trust will offer placements to the full group of T Level Health students studying at the college’s Cannock campus.

They will spend their first year working in outpatient departments before moving onto a hospital ward in their second year, giving them the chance to learn about different areas of patient care.

Before starting their placements in early 2027, students will also receive training similar to NHS staff.

This will cover areas including safeguarding, infection prevention, dignity in care, moving and handling, dementia awareness and basic life support.

Lisa Shepherd, Work Experience Officer at South Staffordshire College, said: “The placement team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has been welcoming, supportive, and highly professional. The clear guidance and expectations provided have given us confidence that our learners will have a positive and meaningful experience.

“We are incredibly excited to see them start their NHS placement journey and take this important step towards their future careers in healthcare.”

Michelle Hickman-Smith, Deputy Head of Nurse Education, said: “Giving students the chance to experience working in a hospital is a great way to help them understand the different roles available in the NHS and the skills needed to care for patients.

“We are pleased to be working with South Staffordshire College to support local students as they take their first steps towards a career in healthcare.”
