A Clinical Technologist is celebrating after being named Apprentice of the Year at a national conference.
Leo Turnbull, 22, won the Paul Austin Level 6 Apprentice of the Year Award at the EBME Conference 2026 in Coventry.
Leo, who works within Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), was nominated for the award by the management team within his service.
He joined RWT as an apprentice in August 2022 and, after completing his course, became a full-time Clinical Technologist in 2025.
As part of his role, Leo services and maintains a range of medical equipment used across the Trust, including mechanical devices, suction equipment and oxygen therapy equipment.
Leo said: “I felt really proud to receive the award. I was over the moon just to be nominated, so to then actually win was an amazing feeling.
“It was really nice to get the recognition for the work I have put in over the last few years.
“I have learned so much since starting my apprenticeship and the team has supported me throughout. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and develop in my role.”

“Since joining us as an apprentice, he has worked hard and continued to develop his knowledge, skills and confidence.
“Leo has become a valued member of the team and this award is well-deserved recognition of everything he has achieved. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.”
