Men’s health and screening clinics, along with wellbeing and lifestyle support, will be provided for staff at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust thanks to a grant of just under £45,000 secured through its charity.
Your RWTC, the Trust’s registered charity, has been awarded £43,668 from NHS Charities Together and NHS England through the Workforce Wellbeing Programme.
The boost has come as part of an £11 million programme – which includes a £5 million contribution from NHS England – and is one of 61 ambitious projects across England to receive funding from the programme since its launch in 2024.
Through this funding, Your RWTC will work to reduce health Inequalities and improve access, support, and engagement amongst minority staff groups.
Projects such as this will help ensure that NHS staff have the support they need to continue to provide the best possible care for patients when it matters most.
Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager at the Trust, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to NHS Charities Together and NHS England for this funding and so pleased our bid, developed with our health and wellbeing colleagues, has been successful.
“Our new project will see us offering monthly men’s health clinics, screening for early identification of cardiovascular and metabolic health risks and lifestyle and wellbeing support. We will be able to hold events throughout the year which will increase awareness of men’s health issues, improve social connections between staff and create an environment where men feel comfortable to talk about their health concerns.
“Our staff are important to us, and we are committed to supporting them well so they can deliver the care our patients deserve.”
Ellie Orton, CEO, NHS Charities Together, added:
“Winter flu season may be coming to a close, but with huge pressure on health services continuing to impact those who care for us, it’s vital that NHS staff receive the tools and support needed to look after their own health and wellbeing.
“We are proud to be supporting NHS charities like Your RWTC with funding that has the potential to make a positive difference to our hardworking NHS staff and reduce the mental and physical toll of working in such a challenging environment.”
Evaluation and learnings from these projects will be used to inform future rounds of funding to support NHS staff wellbeing and to ensure that all projects are sustainable and have a lasting legacy to benefit the workforce both now and in the future.
