You shall go to the Swan Ball!

The Palliative Care Team Presents the SWAN Summer Ball

Businesses across Wolverhampton are being invited to have a ball with fundraisers and help boost a £100,000 appeal set up to support families at the city’s New Cross Hospital.

Your RWTC, the registered charity of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, in partnership with the Specialist Palliative Care Team, has organised the Swan Ball, taking place on Saturday 13 June.

The key event is one of a host to raise money to create a dedicated haven for families whose loved ones are receiving end-of-life care.

The appeal launched last year with just under £12,000 raised so far after staff climbed Mount Snowdon and held a cake bake sale. It aims to transform an existing space into a calm, private and comforting environment for families, offering a peaceful retreat away from busy clinical areas, giving them the space they need to rest, reflect and be together at one of the most difficult times in their lives.

The inaugural Swan Ball will bring together supporters, businesses and the wider community to raise vital funds and shine a spotlight on exceptional end‑of‑life care.

Dr Hannah Jennens, Consultant in Palliative Medicine at the Trust, said: “End-of-life care needs to be centred around dignity and compassion, and this room is a much-needed addition to the hospital, but we need to raise funds to cover the cost of building work and the homely touches needed to make it a comfortable space.”

Rebecca Wilson-Wall,  from the Specialist Palliative Care Team, added “Families often tell us that what they need most is a quiet, private space to gather their thoughts and support one another. This dedicated haven will make a difference to the experience of families during some of their most vulnerable moments.”

The Specialist Palliative Care Team provides highly personalised support to patients with life‑limiting illnesses, including those recognised to be in their last days of life. Its work includes managing physical symptoms such as pain and nausea, offering emotional support, and delivering SWAN care—a compassionate, multi‑disciplinary approach to end‑of‑life and bereavement care used throughout the hospital. SWAN stands for Signs, Words, Actions and Needs, reflecting the Trust’s commitment to dignity, sensitivity and humanity at the end of life.

Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager from Your RWTC, added: We are incredibly grateful for the support shown so far, and the Swan Ball is just one of the exciting fundraising events helping us move closer to our £100,000 target. We encourage local businesses, community groups and individuals to get involved, support the appeal and join us at the Swan Ball to help make this haven a reality.”

Tickets are now available at Ticket Tailor – Swan Ball. People are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
