Young patients will be able to have their say on which designs should be featured on a wall mural in a garden project currently underway at Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity (RWT Charity) has been working with Paediatric teams to create a new bright and beautiful play space off the Children’s Ward.
And fundraisers including Jason and Aimee Guy whose young daughter Olivia was born with 1p36, a rare condition that typically causes severe intellectual disability, have supported the drive to give it a massive makeover.
Now, designs are being planned for a large wall mural in the space and Kirsty Lewis, Senior Matron for Acute Children’s Services at RWT, said patients’ views were vital.
“We are excited about our new garden area and can’t wait to see the finished result – we’ve just had new roofing installed and decorators are busy painting benches ahead of an outdoor TV being installed and new lights.
“Mr Murals, Daniel Russell-Ahern, who has kindly done so much wonderful work for us in the hospital already, will be transforming a wall with his brilliant designs and this is where our young patients come in. We want them to tell us what they’d like to see on there by filling in our short survey. Whichever theme gets the most votes is the one we’ll go with.
“It’s important to us that patients have their say as this is their space and we want it to reflect their wishes so it’s something we’ve done in partnership.”
The survey can be accessed on SurveyMonkey is open from now until Sunday 15 June 2025.
Amanda Winwood, RWT Charity Development Manager, added: “The new garden will be accessible to all and allow our play team opportunities to lead outdoor activities with patients who will benefit from being in the fresh air as part of their recovery.
“We’ve come up with a number of themes and are excited to see which one is chosen!”
The potential designs are:
