Our Oncology department provides care and treatment for people living with cancer.
Based at the Deanesly Centre at New Cross Hospital, we have a 17-bed inpatient ward and outpatient Chemotherapy Unit. Here we provide holistic care to patients and, where possible, reduce the need for inpatient stays.
Oncology includes medical oncology (the use of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and other drugs to treat cancer) and radiation oncology (the use of radiation therapy to treat cancer). Services we provide include systemic therapy, radiotherapy, and palliative care. We also undertake extensive research and trials, as well as training the next generation of doctors.
Oncology CNS (clinical nurse specialist) team
The Oncology CNS Team is a group of nurses with specialist skills, knowledge, and experience in cancer, who provide support and information to patients and their families throughout their treatment. The CNS team carries out face-to-face and telephone clinics to review patients for toxicity of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), as well as dispensing oral SACT treatment.
Cancer Care Navigators support patients with the practical, financial, emotional and physical impacts of living with cancer. They can offer support and advice to patients, their family and friends by signposting, and making onward referrals, to appropriate teams.
