Maternity and Neonatal

Our Maternity and Neonatal Services at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust provide comprehensive care for expectant parents and their newborns. We support families from pregnancy through to the early weeks of life, ensuring a safe and positive experience. Our dedicated team of midwives, doctors, and nurses prioritise the health and wellbeing of both mother and baby. We aim to deliver personalised care, promoting healthy pregnancies, safe births, and optimal neonatal outcomes. We’re here for you during pregnancy, labour, birth, and postnatal care.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust perinatal services include two sites:

Cannock Chase Hospital (CCH)

CCH, which will be displayed on your app and letters as CCH, comprises of antenatal clinic and a sonography department where some of your appointments or scans may be completed.

*Please note there is a free shuttle service available for all patients from New Cross to Cannock Chase Hospital, if your appointment is here this will appear on the letter and Badger notes as CCH.

Beyond the hospital, our services extend into the community We offer antenatal clinics at various locations, making care more accessible for expectant mothers. These community clinics provide essential check-ups, advice, and support throughout pregnancy. We also conduct home visits for postnatal care, ensuring mothers and newborns receive ongoing support in the comfort of their own homes. This integrated approach, encompassing both hospital and community-based services, allows us to provide comprehensive and continuous care for families in the Wolverhampton area.

Expecting a baby is a very exciting time, and our Perinatal Services at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust are passionate about delivering ‘excellence as standard’ for all our parents and newborn babies.

Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals will work with you to deliver safe standards of care throughout your pregnancy journey. We support families during all stages of their pregnancy – from their very first appointment through to labour and post-natal support. We offer low and high-risk pathways of care and birth options based on your risks and individual choices and experiences.

Your Maternity Journey with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust: Where Do I Start?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! We are looking forward to welcoming you to RWT

To ensure you receive the best possible care from the start, you can register your pregnancy with us by completing the self-referral (Click Here). At The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, we manage maternity referrals for Wolverhampton, Cannock and South Staffordshire GP practices. If you are unsure if your practice is under New Cross please contact your GP reception who can provide you with this information. We recommend you book your pregnancy with us as soon as possible so we can provide the safest and most appropriate care individual to you.

Our community team will then assess your referral, and we will contact you within 14 days to schedule your initial appointment.

Important: If you have any concerns about your pregnancy before your appointment, please contact your GP immediately. Alternatively, you can contact 111 for advice.

Badger Notes

Badger Notes is your paperless, electronic records system for recording and tracking your pregnancy with us. You can download the BadgerNotes app from the apple store or play store. Your midwife can assist with setting this up at your booking appointment, we have also created a user guide to help you complete setting up the app (Click here). https://www.badgernotes.net/SelfReferral/CareLocation/newcrosswolverhampton

Screening tests for you and your baby

Baby Diary

Occasionally following birth, some babies are admitted to the neonatal unit.  This can be a very stressful time for Parents and family.

BadgerNet has a service called Baby diary. This is an opt in service, which can be set up with your permission. Nursing staff on the ward will set this up for you. This allows photos of your baby to be uploaded for you to access at any time. You will see updates and messages from staff about your baby.  Parents can enable other family members to view these photos.

After your babies’ time on the neonatal unit, these photos will be yours to keep remembering their journey.

Neonatal

Visiting on Neonatal is open access for Parents and siblings of the baby. You can nominate 6 other visitors for the duration of babies stay. Only 2 persons are to be at the baby’s cot side at a time, this is to allow Health Care professionals clear visibility and access to baby. A Parent of the baby must always accompany a visitor.

Ultrasound information

Children are unable to attend scanning appointments. You can take one adult into a scan with you. If you come to an appointment with a child unfortunately your scan will be rescheduled for another time.

If you are unable to attend an appointment, please contact Maternity Reception as soon as possible for your appointments to be rescheduled within a timely manner.

Emergency advise /admission information (24/7)

Less than 16 weeks pregnant – Please contact your GP or 111. Or in house please call the EPAU – contact number??

More than 16 weeks pregnant – Maternity services operate a maternity triage department, co-located on the 3^rd floor next to the delivery suite. This is for emergency advise and admission for example if you think you are in labour or you are concerned about your baby’s movements. Telephone 01902 695 037
