Staff can access the DIU without a formal referral.
If you have:
- a digital idea
- a service challenge that could be supported by technology or data
- an existing digital project that needs support, governance or evaluation
the DIU can help from the earliest stage.

Services offered:
The Digital Innovation Unit supports digital innovation and transformation across several interconnected areas:
Digital innovation and improvement
- Supporting staff to propose and develop digital ideas through the Digital Front Door
- Helping teams design, pilot and scale solutions that improve workflows and patient experience
- Providing structured support from idea generation through to implementation
Governance and assurance
- Operating a formal Digital Front Door, a multidisciplinary governance process that evaluates digital ideas for:
- clinical safety
- information governance
- scalability
- value and impact
- Ensuring innovations are safe, ethical, evidence-based and aligned to Group and national priorities
Data-driven and predictive care
- Developing and supporting tools such as the Community Matrix, integrating data from multiple services into structured datasets
- Enabling proactive identification of patients at risk using advanced analytics, automation and machine learning
- Supporting anticipatory and virtual models of care, including virtual wards
Advanced digital transformation
- Supporting major system-level programmes, including the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR) rollout
- Working on AI-enabled solutions, supporting clinical documentation and clinician–patient conversations
- Exploring robotic process automation (RPA) and AI to reduce administrative burden and improve insight
Digital enablement and workforce capability
- Delivering a Digital Enablement Programme to improve digital maturity, literacy and inclusion
- Supporting staff and communities to confidently adopt and use digital tools
