Our Bereavement Centre at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust offers an individualised, culturally sensitive service. We provide comprehensive information, guidance and support for bereaved relatives and friends following the death of a loved one.
It is possible for you to arrange to see your loved one in the Swan Suite (Location B21). This is by appointment only and can be organised by telephoning the Bereavement Nurses on 01902 445863. For more information, please see page 3 in the bereavement booklet or watch this video.
When someone dies, there are a number of practical things that need to be done. The aim of the following booklet is to give you direction and advice at a time when you may be feeling overwhelmed.
What do I need to do next?
It is important that following the death of a loved one you contact the Bereavement Centre so we can provide you with practical support and guide you through the next steps. Our hospital chaplaincy service, which is a multi-faith department, is able to provide pastoral, spiritual and religious care for patients and their relatives. If you wish to speak to one of our chaplains, they can be contacted on: 01902 695098.
Please remember, there are specialist organisations to help and support you in your bereavement and a list of these can be found on page 28-29 of the bereavement booklet.
Bereavement Support Café Hub
Additional bereavement support is available via our Bereavement Support Cafés which are held in the Heart and Lung Centre Seminar Room (next to the café), the second Friday of every month 10:15am – 11:45am. They are an informal friendly space for anyone experiencing bereavement, grief or loss to share their experiences.

Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving
Each year we hold a short service to remember and give thanks to those we have lost. The service is open to those of faith and those of no faith. All are welcome. This years’ service will be held on Sunday, 18 May 11am-12noon, venue details to follow.

We are determined to provide the best possible service to patients and other visitors to the Trust and welcome all comments on our service, whether good or bad, so that we can act on these comments to continue to improve the service we provide.
If you have any comments on the service you have experienced, please contact the Bereavement Centre or the person in charge of the ward/department where your relative died. Alternatively, the Patient Advice and Liaison team (PALS) at the hospital can provide assistance if you have cause for concern, compliments or suggestions regarding the care of your loved one or your family. What is the Quality Survey?
The Quality Survey is a survey for the friends and family of someone who has sadly died. The aim of the survey is to give those close to the person who died an opportunity to share their views on the care and support provided in hospital. The National Audit of Care at the End of Life (NACEL) is a national audit which looks at the care experienced by the dying person and those important to them during their last hospital admission.
