Friends and Family Test

The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is a national NHS initiative, which offers every patient who uses our services the opportunity to give feedback on their experience.

Patients are asked whether they would recommend services to friends and family in need of similar care – an important reflection of what we do.

The FFT is a quick and simple way to understand the needs of our patients. Your feedback is important, and counts in shaping our future and living our values.

The process

Within 48 hours of leaving hospital, you will be asked to rate your experience. This may be by:

  • text message
  • phone call
  • an online form
  • a card through the post

Your answer is voluntary and anonymous – so it will not be traced back to you.

A family member or friend can answer on your behalf if you prefer.

It is free of charge to respond.

Following your feedback

Your feedback is used to identify opportunities to improve our services and make sure patients are receiving the best possible care.

Survey results are published monthly on the NHS website.

Information is sent to senior staff so they can act on feedback where needed. Compliments are also shared with the staff who were involved in your care.
