More than 1,500 people have been given help to quit smoking thanks to a specialist service run by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
The Trust’s Tobacco Dependency Service (TDS) is celebrating another successful year, with results showing more than a thousand people supported through sustained, personalised care.
Between October 2024 and September 2025, the service received more than 1,500 referrals, with many individuals taking their first steps towards a smoke-free life.
The team provides tailored one-to-one support and access to nicotine replacement therapy, helping patients achieve lasting change.
Throughout the year, the service achieved an average four-week quit rate of around 46 per cent, with some months seeing up to half of participants remaining smoke-free at 12 weeks.
These results reflect both the dedication of staff and the determination of local people to improve their health and wellbeing.
The service’s success aligns with the national Stoptober campaign, which encourages people to quit smoking throughout October and beyond. The team’s approach ensures that the spirit of Stoptober continues year-round, offering support whenever people feel ready to make the change.
Annalisa Golding, Tobacco Dependency Service Lead, said: “Stoptober is a fantastic reminder that it’s never too late to quit. We work to help people take that step whenever they’re ready, and our results show it’s making a real difference.”
Smoking remains the single biggest cause of preventable death in the UK, contributing to heart disease, cancer, and respiratory illness. Through initiatives like the Tobacco Dependency Service, the Trust continues its commitment to reducing smoking-related harm and tackling health inequalities across Wolverhampton.
