A former patient and his colleagues have completed a sponsored walk to raise money for the Wolverhampton hospital which ‘saved his life’.
Kulbinder Singh organised the 24-mile walk to mark 10 years since his heart attack.
Kulbinder, Techinical Lead for MJ Sections Limited, was joined by work friends Mick Hollis, Dave Evans and Shaun McNally to walk from Bridgnorth to Brown Clee Hill and back again.
The group raised £800 for Your RWTC, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s charity, which was boosted by an extra £1,200 from Kulbinder’s employer.
The father of three from Bilston said: “It took us six hours to do the walk. It certainly wasn’t easy and was very challenging.
“I decided to organise the walk as it is the 10th anniversary since I had a heart attack and the staff at New Cross Hospital saved my life.
“I remember it so clearly. On June 8 2015 I woke up at 4am and was so hot and sweaty the sheets were stuck to me. It was very unusual for me and I was struggling to breathe. My wife called the ambulance and I was taken to New Cross where they put in three stents.
“The staff were incredible. I went in on Monday and by Wednesday I was home.
“I really had fantastic care. I wanted to do this walk to give something back and help others. The NHS is a credit to the country, and we are so lucky to have it.”
Lindsey Wagstaff, Community & Events Fundraising Officer for Your RWTC, said: “A huge thank you to Kulbinder and his friends for raising this money. We really appreciate the support. Thanks for thinking of us – even 10 years on!”
