New NHS campaign launch for cervical screening appointments

Cervical Screening Test Campaign

A new public awareness campaign has launched to encourage more women and people with a cervix across the West Midlands to attend important screening appointments.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, in partnership with Roche Diagnostics, has today announced the launch of “Let’s Talk Cervical Screening.”

As part of the campaign, the Cytology Service will be attending the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market tomorrow (Saturday, 1 November), where members of the public are invited to stop and speak with staff about any questions or concerns they may have regarding cervical screening.

To help raise awareness, campaign posters and digital signage have been placed in public areas – including bus stops, shopping centres, and on ITV-X – to encourage people to book their screening appointment.

Karen Kendall, Cytology Service Lead at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “A high number of eligible women and people with a cervix in the West Midlands have not had their latest cervical screening, and there is an urgent need to boost uptake rates across the region and help save lives.

“Through our campaign, we want to reach the hundreds of thousands of individuals who are overdue their cervical screening, and we’re calling on everyone eligible to make an appointment and get screened.”

Across the West Midlands, data shows that more than 530,000 women and people with a cervix aged 25–64 are not up to date with their cervical screening.

This means around one in three of those eligible have not attended their latest appointment.

Kate Quinney, Clinical Marketing Partner, Women’s Health, Roche Diagnostics UK and Ireland said: “We are proud to collaborate with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust to roll-out this important campaign in the West Midlands.

“Cervical screening can play a vital role in preventing cancer before it develops. I strongly encourage anyone with concerns or questions to visit the team at the Christmas market or explore the online resources available. Taking the step to attend your cervical screening appointment is one of the best ways to prevent cancer.”
