Knitters and crafters are being encouraged to create a first class talking point at two Black Country hospitals – by creating post box toppers.

Garry Perry, Associate Director Patient Voice (Experience), at Walsall Healthcare and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trusts, has been impressed by resident Nikki Billiard’s bright and fun designs that have helped raise a smile across many streets in Pelsall.
She has crafted a wedding scene, a Christmas delight complete with flashing lights and a woolly version of the Wizard of Oz, to name just a few examples of her eye-catching work. And post box toppers have proved popular all over the UK with handcrafted pieces captivating communities far and wide.
Garry said: “Nikki is an incredibly talented person who has gifted so much joy to others through her brilliant toppers. Her creations have not only brightened our streets but have also lifted spirits in ways that are hard to measure. I’m also proud to call her a friend.
“Inspired by Nikki’s efforts, I’d love to bring that same sense of joy and connection to Walsall Manor and New Cross Hospitals. We have a post box on site in the main atrium at Walsall and at South Entrance at Wolverhampton, and I’m keen to hear from local knitters and crafters who would like to help us create our own toppers, something to bring a smile to our patients, visitors and staff.
“We plan to rotate the toppers at least six times a year, with designs that can follow the seasons, celebrate healthcare, or simply surprise us by being unexpected and fun! I know we have some fantastically talented and supportive communities across Walsall and Wolverhampton – many of whom support our charities – and I hope we can see them rise to this creative challenge.”
Anyone interested in getting involved is asked to contact Garry via email at garry.perry1@nhs.net and may want to pop into either hospital to look at the post box to determine size and position for the toppers.
