A Care Coordinator who supports patients throughout their cancer journey has won an award for her hard work and dedication.
Janet Cox, who works for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Primary Care Network (PCN), won the ‘Wolverhampton Individual of the Year’ award at last week’s Cancer Celebration Event.
The event, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support and hosted by the Black Country Integrated Care Board, recognises outstanding contributions to cancer care services.
Janet was celebrated for her exceptional dedication, innovation, and compassionate care.
Her contributions have led to increased uptake in bowel, breast, and cervical screening and a more supportive cancer care environment for patients within the Wolverhampton community.
Not only does Janet raise awareness of the national screening programmes, but she also holds public events across a range of community venues, to answer people’s cancer-related questions.
Janet said: “It was a huge shock to find out I had won; I feel so proud to have even been nominated and shortlisted, so winning is such an honour.
“My role was created last year; I’m delighted I’ve been able to make such a difference over the last 12 months, and I am looking forward to supporting more patients over the next 12 months.”
PCN Deputy Clinical Director and GP Dr Bukola Olomolaiye said: “Janet has exemplified the values of our PCN in going above and beyond for the patients that she has cared for.
“Her efforts in stepping out to increase cancer awareness in traditionally hard to reach communities is rightly commended and we look forward to seeing what she can achieve in future.”
