From 3 November, the Urgent Treatment Centre at Phoenix Health Centre, on Parkfield Road, Wolverhampton, will be closing two hours earlier. This means the opening hours will be 8am until 6pm, seven days a week. Outside of these hours you can access the Urgent Treatment Centre at New Cross Hospital, which is open 24/7, 365 days a year. Other services which are available to you include NHS 111 and your local pharmacist.

Bright start for future healthcare workers

Nine students have successfully completed a course designed to help them gain confidence and skills by working in the NHS.

They were awarded certificates after graduating from the five-week King’s Trust course at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

The King’s Trust, formerly known as The Prince’s Trust, offers various programmes to help young people aged 16 to 30 gain confidence, skills, and job opportunities, including those in healthcare and hospitals.

Among the graduates was 20-year-old Rebecca Hargreaves, who spent her placement on the Maternity Unit.

She said: “I joined the course hoping that I would achieve something, and I have. It has helped me with my confidence, and I have made new friends.

“I have been making beds and supporting the mums that need help during their stay.

“My hope is that, following this course, I can be a support worker in the Maternity Unit and get the qualifications that I need at university.”

Another successful graduate was 22-year-old Hannah Archer from Wolverhampton.

She said: “I have experienced a lot during the last five weeks. I have loved making new friends and helping people.

“I am hoping that following this, I can get a job in the NHS and continue to help people.

“To anyone who is thinking of doing the King’s Trust programme, I would tell them to just go for it, it’s a great experience and I have loved every moment.”

Louise Richards, NHS Futures Trainer at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “For the Trust, it is really important that we get new faces into the organisation.

“For these young people this offers them a foot in the door, and an opportunity they may not have got through the normal channels.

“Congratulations to them all for passing the course, they have done an amazing job, and I am so proud of all of them.

“The transformation from when they first joined to now is amazing to see, I am so grateful to be a small part in their journey.”
