Cancer Nurses praised for outstanding care

Cancer Nurses in Walsall and Wolverhampton were praised for their outstanding care at a specialist day celebrating their roles.
The first ever Black Country ICB Cancer Services Networking event was held last month and was attending by Cancer Nurse Specialists from The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.
The event was organised to celebrate the excellent achievements of teams that work together in the Black Country to provide exceptional cancer care for patients and their families.
As part of the event there was an awards ceremony.
The Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist team at RWT was awarded the Cancer Information and Support Award.
The award was given to the team to commend the work it does to support patients to live well following their cancer diagnosis.
Raj Khunkun, Lead Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist, said: “The team work incredibly hard to support our patients so I am really thrilled they have won this award to congratulate them on the outstanding care they provide.
“I am really proud of what they do on a daily basis and I am so glad they were recognised and won an award at this event.”
Three awards were won by teams at Walsall Healthcare including;- The Research and Education Programme Award – given to the Living With and Beyond Personalised Cancer Care Team.
- Macmillan Heart, Strength and Ambition Award – given to the Bereavement Service, Lymphoedema Team and Complementary Therapies located at Walsall Palliative Care Centre.
- Working in Partnership Award – Linda Hayes, Cervical Screening Nurse, was recognised for her work.
Nicky Adams, Macmillian Lead Cancer Nurse at Walsall Healthcare, said: “I would like to personally thank the Living With and Beyond Cancer Team and all colleagues that have supported the health and wellbeing event initiatives run by the team. This personal aspect of holistic care is making a difference to the quality of the patient experience for all cancer patients within our organisation.
“I am particularly proud how much this service has achieved for patients, carers and staff in such a short time.
“Well done to all our winners. It was a great opportunity to showcase all of the brilliant work undertaken across Walsall supporting patients with a cancer diagnosis.”
