Health Child Wolves app

Healthy Child Wolves LogoThe ‘Healthy Child Wolves’ app provides parents and carers with quick, easy access to trusted health advice and practical tips for supporting their child aged 0–5-years. By downloading the app onto your mobile phone or tablet, you will have access to a wide range of information, from pregnancy to preparing your child for school, and everything in between. This includes advice on common illnesses, first aid, safety, breastfeeding, dental health, and looking after your emotional health and wellbeing.

Why are we collecting your data and what data items will we process


We collect data within the Healthy Child Wolves app to provide parents and carers with quick, easy access to trusted health advice and practical tips for supporting their child aged 0–5-years.

The app is available to download for free from Google Play or the App Store.

To use all the app’s features, select ‘new user’ after downloading and enter your details, including your name and email address. This will allow you to use the ‘My children’ section to create profiles for yourself and your family members.

The Health Visiting team may offer to send you additional advice and information through the app. You can choose which types of updates you would like to receive by clicking ‘messages’ at the bottom of the app and selecting the push notification groups that interest you. You can change your preferences or opt out of notifications at any time.

We do not collect or store any personal data outside of the app. The app may process the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your gender (optional)
  • Your mobile phone number (optional)
  • Your date of birth (optional)
  • Your family members’ name and date of birth (optional)
  • Your location (optional)
  • NHS number (optional)
  • Your app usage (such as pages you view) to help us improve our services
  • Your choice to receive push notifications if you opt in
  • Any other information you may give us when you write to us or contact us in other ways

We do not collect your personal contact details, and you can use the app without providing personal data, however you will not be able to use all the app’s features.

How we will use this data and what is the legal basis for processing the data?


If you choose to register an account with the Healthy Child Wolves app your information will be used to:

  • Send you push notifications about local health services, health promotion, updates, and more if you have opted in
  • Improve the app by understanding how it is used

As the data subject, should you wish to sign up to the Healthy Child Wolves app, then it is your choice to do so and therefore you are consenting to using this service. Therefore, the legal basis for us to process your data once set up on the Healthy Child Wolves app is as follows:

6(1)(e) UK GDPR: Public task – the processing is necessary for us to perform a task in the public interest or in the exercise of our official authority as an NHS provider delivering health promotion services.

Who will we share your data with outside of those in this programme?


Data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is a subsidiary of Amazon. The AWS service provides cloud computing and cloud storage (hosting of the database) for the mobile app service. AWS is used by BBC, Netflix, and Facebook among others and offers the scalability and security needed for this application.

AWS data is stored securely with limited internal access to key members of staff.

Apple and Google will not have access to the data provided within the app.

Forms completed via the app are delivered via Mailgun. Mailgun only hold this data for 30 days in the Healthy Child Wolves App logs and then they are deleted.

How long will we process your data for?


We do not store personal data outside of the app. Any app usage is retained only for as long as necessary for service improvement purposes in line with NHS data retention policies, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised.

What are your rights and how to enforce them?


Under data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access any data we hold about you
  • Request correction of any inaccurate information
  • Request erasure of your data in certain circumstances
  • Object to the processing of your data

You also have the right to have your information held by AWS deleted if you choose to deregister.

What are my options to opt-out from this data processing?


  1. You can opt out from the Healthy Child Wolves app push notifications by going to your app settings and selecting ‘Your Push Groups’. Here you can choose which typed of notifications you want to receive.
  2. You can also choose to delete the app on your device. You would need to make a separate request for your information held by AWS to be deleted.

Additional information


The Healthy Child Wolves app is managed by the Marketing & Health Promotion Officer using a Trust-issued, secure NHS laptop for updating content and sending push notifications. Notifications are sent only through the app to those who have opted in, and we do not store or use your personal contact details for this purpose.
