Breastfeeding Support and Information
Pregnant? Want to find out about feeding your baby?
There is a host of useful information on this page that will help you with breastfeeding and discover the local support available to help you give your baby the best start in life.
Wolverhampton’s breastfeeding support and social groups:
Many pregnant women find it very helpful to attend a breastfeeding support group before the birth of their baby, to talk to other mothers, ask questions and meet breastfeeding supporters.
New mothers also value support groups to gain practical breastfeeding support and information from peer supporters, and to meet other mothers to share their experiences.
Run by Wolverhampton’s Infant Feeding Team and 0-19 Health Visiting Team, our face-to-face support groups operate on a drop-in basis, so there is no need to book to attend. Partners, friends, and family members are welcome to join you.- Tuesdays, 12noon-2pm – Bingley Family Hub, Norfolk Road, Pennfields, WV3 0JE
- Wednesdays 10am-12pm - The Children’s Village Family Hub, Graiseley Lane, Wolverhampton, WV11 1PE
- Thursdays, 12noon-2pm – Bilston Library, Mount Pleasant, Bilston, WV14 7LU
- Fridays, 10am-12pm - Whitmore Reans Family Hub, Lansdowne Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 4AL
There is also the 'virtual breastfeeding support and social group' which runs every Monday evening, 7.00pm - 8:30pm on MS teams. Breakout rooms are available for 1-1 support. To join, email: familyhubs.infantfeeding@wolverhampton.gov.uk to be sent the login details.
If you are working, you may be able to ask your workplace for time off work to attend one or more group sessions if they’ve been recommended by a health professional - ask your doctor or midwife for details. For more updates and information on groups and other breastfeeding events in Wolverhampton, you can follow our Facebook page
At around 32 - 34 weeks of your pregnancy, your community midwife will have a conversation with you about feeding your baby. You can also attend RWT’s Virtual Antenatal classes that cover ‘feeding your baby’ by emailing rwh-tr.antenatal-classes@nhs.net.
Face to Face Support
All midwives, Health Visitors and support staff are trained to provide breastfeeding support. Some pregnant women and new mothers may require specialist breastfeeding support – if so, your midwife or health visitor will make a referral for you.
