Fundraising campaign for children’s centre

A campaign to raise money for a children’s centre has kicked off with a day of activities, free books and fancy dress.

Staff at the Gem Centre in Wolverhampton are currently raising money to make improvements to the building to improve the experience for their youngest patients.

The aim is to raise £5,000 to create new artwork on the Gem Centre’s walls.

The team recently celebrated World Book Day and the launch of their campaign with a day full of activities and dressing up as their favourite book characters.

The National Literacy Trust also donated 30 books for a range of ages that were handed out to young people attending the Gem Centre on the day for appointments.

Sara Eacopo, Matron for Children’s Community Nursing Service and Clinical Nurse Specialists, said: “I invited different services and organisations based at the Gem Centre to come together to raise funds that will help benefit our patients, as well as raise the profile of the Gem Centre and promote our services.

“Thank you to all colleagues who have and will be participating in the events, and to everyone who’ve kindly donated to help us make the Gem Centre a more welcoming and engaging place for children and young people.”

Jess Wood, Directorate Manager for Children’s Community Services, 0-19 and Children and Young People In Care (CYPIC), said: “I think this is a wonderful idea. We’re really grateful for all the contributions from everyone and pleased that it’s an initiative that’s working across services and organisations within the Gem Centre.

“All the donations that we receive will not only benefit patients of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, but all children and young people in Wolverhampton that access the Gem Centre.”
