It takes place at the 01902/Urban Rooms unit at Queen Square from 9.30am to 3pm on Tuesday 4 February, 2025.
NHS staff from across the NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board and the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Public Health team will be available to speak to members of the public while representatives of Macmillan Cancer Support will be on hand to offer help and advice for people living with and beyond cancer.
People will be able to get information on how to check for symptoms of cancer and what to do if they have any concerns. There will be information about the three main NHS screening programmes, for breast, bowel and cervical cancer, and an opportunity to try interactive body parts to help people check themselves.
Specialists from the Dermatology team at The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Trust will also be in attendance; anyone who is worried about changes in their skin can also speak privately to them.
Visitors will also be able to check their health with free blood pressure and blood sugar tests.
Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: "This is part of a series of events taking place across the region to mark World Cancer Day, and I would encourage anyone who has any questions about the signs and symptoms of cancer, screening, diagnosis and treatment to come along to speak to our friendly staff."
On the same day, the University of Wolverhampton is holding an online World Cancer Day event from 10am-3pm - free tickets are available at Eventbrite - World Cancer Day
Julian Gwinnett, co-chair of the university’s Disabled Staff Network, said: "We are inviting people to join us for a day of education, connection and hope as we come together in support of those affected by cancer.
"Our World Cancer Day event will feature informative sessions on palliative care and ground-breaking treatments, as well as heartfelt testimonials from cancer survivors and information about support services for relatives of cancer patients.”
