Mum Faidat Hassan gave birth in the Midwifery-Led Unit at 2.15am today and she and Grace’s dad James Ojo are both over the moon.

Grace is the couple’s first baby and Faidat explained that they had been trying to start a family for a long time.

“She is our gift from God as we had waited so long for a baby,” said the 29 year old teacher.

“We found out we were having a girl and I felt twice as blessed as I really wanted to have a daughter. I am around children all the time in my teaching job so I know how energetic they can be and I’m ready for this. We are just so happy she is here.”

Faidat also praised the “wonderful” staff at the Midwifery-Led Unit.

“It was a really good experience; they are all wonderful there. We came in yesterday and I thought she might not arrive until Thursday or Friday, but she had other ideas.”

Luckily for the couple, Grace’s aunt and grandmother have come over from Nigeria and are taking care of cooking Christmas lunch when the new family goes home today.

James, 52, who works in logistics, joked: “I’m really tired, I’ve been up all night!

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has also seen more Christmas Day babies on Delivery Suite.

Second to arrive today was baby boy Rabaab, first child for mum Rajni Kaur and dad Sleem Khan.

“We are Sikhs so don’t celebrate Christmas but we know it’s a special day for many,” she said.
