Trio of triumphs for Trust
Date of release: 17 October 2023
Award-winners come in threes at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust where a team, a volunteer and a staff member have all triumphed on the national stage.
The Helpforce Champions Awards are a chance to shine a light on those who give their time to help staff in the health and care sector, and support patients and their families and carers.

And Wolverhampton’s Patient Experience Team Volunteer Services came away with the Celebrating Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Award, Kemal Osman, scooped a special ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’ and Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager, won the ‘Outstanding Staff Champion of the Year Award. The winners were announced in London last Friday.
Alison Dowling, Head of Patient Experience and Public Involvement, said: “We are over the moon at being recognised nationally for the important work we have been doing do to create opportunities for all potential volunteers.
“I am proud of the team which has a “can do” attitude and is compassionate and supportive towards helping people in our communities with disabilities and long-term conditions to realise their aspirations. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing volunteers we have nurtured thrive and develop. They are an asset to our organisation, and we thank them for all they do for others.”

Kemal, who has been volunteering on Ward D7 at New Cross Hospital since January as he “wanted to give back” to the NHS, said he was “humbled” to be shortlisted.
The 60-year-old was thrilled to walk away a winner and added: “I feel absolutely amazing and humbled, very humbled, it was a fantastic event! There are a lot of deserving people out there and this is for them.”
He has also successfully gained a position on the Temporary Staffing Bank enabling him to pick up paid shifts to support ward staff and patients.
Amanda was awarded for her contribution to supporting the Patient Experience Team Volunteer Services and success with past fundraising events.
Amanda Winwood
She said she was delighted to have been given the award, against strong competition.
“I really value our volunteers so to have been nominated by the Patient Experience Team Volunteer Services in the first place was a special moment for me,” she said.
“To actually win is fantastic and it does acknowledge the important relationship the RWT Charity and Patient Experience Team Volunteer Services has worked hard to establish over the years. But well done to everyone who was nominated too – there’s so many people working tirelessly to enhance the experience of the patients and families who need healthcare services.”
